Grace Increased All the More

"Where sin increased, grace increased all the more: so that, just as sin reigned unto death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 5:20-21

Only one thing exceeds the depth of our sin and rebellion against God, and that is the exceeding greatness of God's love. However great is the depth of our sin, God's love reaches even lower and forgives, redeems, restores, and reconciles us to Himself. Who can fathom God's abounding love, His amazing grace, and His mercy that is exceedingly great?

Read prayerfully the words of this beloved hymn we sing. May the truth of its message inscribe itself upon our hearts and instill a confident trust in an ever-faithful loving God. "Marvelous grace of our loving Lord, grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt, yonder on Calvary's mount outpoured, there where the blood of the Lamb was spilt. Sin and despair like the sea waves cold, threaten the soul with infinite loss. Grace that is greater, yes, grace untold, points to the refuge, the mighty Cross. Dark is the stain that we cannot hide; what can avail to wash it away? Look! There is flowing a crimson tide; whiter than snow you may be today. Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace, freely bestowed to all who believe, you that are longing to see His face, will you this moment His grace receive? Grace, grace, God's grace, grace that will pardon and cleanse within. Grace, grace, God's grace, grace that is greater than all our sin!" How great is His love and grace? "Where sin abounded, grace did much more abound" (Romans 5:20).

Read the words of Annie Johnson Flint: "He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater. He sendeth more strength when the labors increase, to added affliction He addeth His mercy, to multiplied trials His multiplied peace. When we have exhausted our storehouse of endurance, when our strength is failed ere the day is half done, when we reach the end of our hoarded resources, our Father's full giving has only begun. His love has no limit, His grace has no measure, His power has no boundary known unto men. For out of His infinite riches in Jesus, He giveth...and giveth...and giveth again!"

Sometimes we wonder in our distress, "Where is God when we need Him?" Well, He's right where we left Him! When we are faced with devastating circumstances, we should not look at the circumstances for the answer we need and wonder, "Where is God?" We need to look within and find where we have separated ourselves from the presence and power of God through our sinful neglect, or from following our own self-centered ways. With a broken heart and a contrite spirit of repentance and confession, we will experience His forgiveness. He is ever willing to restore, bind up, and receive us back again in full fellowship with Him by God's great grace! Marvelous, matchless, infinite grace!
