"Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back, lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes." Isaiah 54:2
If you are going to have any spiritual growth in your life...if you are going to accomplish anything for God...if you are ever going to be an effective and fruitful Christian...THEN, you must tear down your self-imposed walls, look beyond "your" interest, "your" concern, "your" welfare, and abandon yourself by faith, to Jesus Christ. This abundant life in Christ is a life beyond and outside of ourselves. It is initiated, sustained, and empowered by the Holy Spirit. It comes through appropriating the provisions of His grace that Christ has purchased for us, and given to us.
Isaiah says, "Enlarge your place...stretch your tent...do not hold back...lengthen the cords...strengthen the stakes!" These are action words, that, when joined with faith in Christ, will carry us to life on the highest plane! These are stepping stones that take us from our initial faith in Christ for salvation, to a life of becoming in the image of His Son. These are daring steps in which we will have to cut the shore lines of security, and by faith, launch out into the unknown waters where we will see God work in ways beyond our capability.
Paul continually challenged new believers, that their initial salvation was the beginning of their spiritual journey. God wants every believer to grow in grace and knowledge of Him, and become mature in the faith. Consider yourself as one of whom Paul is praying. "I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God" (Ephesians 5:16-19). This is LIFE ON THE HIGHEST PLANE. This to me is incredible...but this is GOD, and His desire for you and me!
You might say, "How can I have such a life?" First, you must surrender your will to His lordship, His control, His authority. We give up our right to control our life to HIM. That's the last citadel we are willing to relinquish. Paul said, "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless, I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me" (Galatians 3:20).
Second, we must appropriate His promises, make them a reality by applying them to our daily life. Peter said, "He has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires" (2 Peter 1:4).
God has given to us everything we need to live triumphantly, effectively, and fruitfully. We must by "experiential faith" put our lives on the line, and trust Him implicitly in every phase of our life. He then will bring us into an intimate relationship, and we will walk in a blessed companionship with the Lord.
It is a progressive life of becoming like Him. "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly" (John 10:10). Let Christ possess the whole of your personality, by the power of the Holy Spirit, with the adequacy of Christ. HOW GLORIOUS!
